These
photographs, purportedly depicting Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5, clearly
reveal the fifth-generation device will boast a dual LED camera flash,
two cameras for taking 3D photos, and a new edge-to-edge display.
At least they would if they were genuine. Which we’re almost certain they’re not.
“Leaked”
photographs of upcoming Apple devices aren’t uncommon, especially as we
get closer a product’s expected launch date. Some photos leave many of
us guessing whether they’re genuine or just the work of a Photoshop pro.
Others, like these we have today, are quite clearly poor fakes. But we
all need a good giggle on a Monday morning.
These photos were first published by Chinese site 175wan.com;
a site we hadn’t previously heard of with regards to Apple rumours.
They are claimed to be from someone in Shenzhen, China, the home of the
Foxconn factory where Apple’s iPhones are assembled, and were reportedly
taken “by accident.”
How can I be so certain these images are fake?
Well,
firstly, there’s that really poor and tasteless ’5′ badge emblazoned
onto the rear of the device next to the familiar ‘iPhone’ name, which I
struggle to believe Apple would ever tattoo onto the back of one of its
devices. Also, both the ’5′ and the ‘e’ don’t quite seem to be properly
aligned with the rest of the text. The small text beneath the ’5′ also
looks as though it has been smudged.
That dual LED flash also doesn’t seem quite right. We’ve heard a number of rumors that claim the next iPhone will feature a dual flash, but surely having them both so close together like that defeats the object?
What do you think? Are these photographs quite clearly fakes, or is this what we can expect from the iPhone come September?
