The Illinois-based company is joining the fight against the upcoming Apple iPhone 5. Motorola has already launched a number of smartphones carrying Android, but this new lineup is specifically destined to outmatch the rumored iOS 5-based device.
Earlier this year, Motorola unveiled the Atrix 4G at CES 2011 in Los Angeles. During this time, the device has had great market success due to its 4” qHD compatible display (960×540), dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and Android 2.2 OS. Moreover, Motorola’s 11.6 inch laptop dock makes the Atrix 4G a unique opponent.
Following the success of its predecessor, the Photon is a 4.3” Android Gingerbread (2.3) smartphone. Also boasting qHD support as well as bundling the famous laptop dock, the device runs on a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset, not to mention an 8 MP rear facing camera (and a VGA front facing camera for video chatting) with 720p video capture and playback capability.
Perhaps the most mysterious of Motorola’s products is the Bionic, who although part of the CES 2011 convention, is yet to reach the stores. The smartphone brings a humongous 4.5 inch qHD display as well as a standard 8 MP rear-facing HD camera and VGA front-facing camera, like thePhoton.
Two other powerful smartphones would be the Motorola Droid X2 and the Droid 2 Global, which, thanks to their enhanced Android as well as technical features, are bound to join the fight with Samsung and HTC to overthrow the iPhone 5 ghost.
With a strong line-up right on their territory, Apple had better bring a true smartphone iOS 5 flagship, otherwise it may get lost in this international skirmish. But if Apple manages to bring onboard an iPhone that could transform at least half of the rumors we’ve been hearing for the past six months, then there’s absolutely no doubt that iPhone 5 will be a killer.
